VisitPITTSBURGH is honored to be hosting the Professional Convention Management Association's 2019 Convening Leaders, January 6-9, 2019 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. PCMA's Convening Leaders is among the most important, influential, and inspiring conference for the business events industry. Convening Leaders attendees are responsible for the many face to face events, conferences and conventions representing important industry segments such as health care, technology, STEM, education and more. These professionals come to Convening Leaders to learn how to make their events relevant and impactful, as they are often platforms for solving some of society's most complex challenges. This year, Convening Leaders will be the foundation for events of the future. Attendees will disrupt today’s traditional business events, conferences, and conventions, and deliver an innovative, new generation of events. Pittsburgh’s state-of-the-art technology, world-renowned food, and exquisite arts and music scene sets the perfect destination to reinvent the events industry. Join us as we welcome these event, meeting, and industry professionals and be part of the transformation of an industry so important to our City. 

In order to make this event a success, VisitPITTSBURGH needs YOU and other hospitality minded volunteers to successfully host this meeting and social events.

Frequently Asked Questions: 

Will Ambassadors be able to attend some Convening Leaders sessions once finished with volunteer shifts?  The only way to attend sessions is to Register for the event.  BUT, local volunteers who sign up to work at least 8 hours will be able to take advantage of a discount on their overall conference registration ($650 registration rate!).  Upon completion of the event, if a volunteer has not worked their 8 hour minimum, and has registered at the discounted rate, PCMA will charge the full conference registration rate. 

Will Ambassadors wear a uniform?  Ambassadors will be provided an official vest, name badge and welcome button.  Ambassadors are asked to wear professional looking dark colored pants (no jeans, skirts, or shorts), a white or black top and comfortable shoes.

Will Ambassadors be able to choose activity locations?  Yes, ambassadors will be able to select locations, activities and shifts.

Is there an age requirement?  We ask for volunteers' birthdates, as all volunteers must be at least 18 years of age as of January 6, 2019.  Please do not bring children or pets. 

Will Ambassadors need to attend orientation?  Yes, you are required to attend the orientation session on Thursday, January 3rd. at the Westin Convention Center Hotel. 

How many shifts will Ambassadors have to contribute? Volunteers must contribute a minimum of one (1) volunteer shift and one (1) mandatory orientation.

Will Ambassadors be reimbursed for parking or transportation?   Parking and Transportation to downtown is not reimbursable.  It is highly suggested to use Public Transportation when possible. 

Do volunteers need to have special skills?  No special skills are required. Volunteers may be required to stand for extended period of time.
